World Optometry Day

Optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system as defined by the World Council of Optometry. An optometrist also provides specialized services like vision therapy, sports vision care, low vision care, contact lenses, pediatric and geriatric care. An optometrist being the first line of defense for vision protection manages and co-manages one’s eye.

A Global Event

23rd March is marked as the World Optometry Day and the following week as the World Optometry Week. This day is generally celebrated to create awareness about optometry as a profession.
